Chilton Lodge Cattery
By Simon
Hello. My name is Simon and I would like to tell all puddies out there about the boarding cattery which is operated from where I live. I was 'The Unwanted’ – until I arrived here at the owners of Chilton Lodge Cattery. I am now the ‘Concierge’ for the cattery - to puddies who don’t know what that is – it’s the ‘Puddy’ who does the meet and greet to guests and their owners when they arrive.
The cattery was opened in 1990 and will only accommodate approximately 15 cats – and none of those canine creatures. When you arrive you will find cosy and comfortable individual units and are booked into the unit most appropriate for you on your first stay or your ‘usual’ unit for return puddies – depending on bookings.
As we cats are, by nature, generally solitary animals, we have individual cages as we know you like your own space. It also makes it easier for the ‘Boss’ (AKA Lynda) to monitor what you are eating and ‘the other’. When you arrive, you will see that you have a really cute name tag on your cage so you are always called by your name – it does make you feel part of everything. The cages have neat little ‘cubby holes’ for you to retire into, which have warm polar fleece cuddly beds in them and in winter you get hot water bottles to snuggle into! As you become more confident about being away from you mum and dad you can move into the larger cages. We are not a big flash cattery but we make up for it with a very caring environment created by the Boss.
People are in and out all day so you don’t get lonely, along with the radio going to help keep up on the news of the day.
The day starts with cages being cleaned between 7am and 8am and if you’re feeling confident you can wander out and about around the cattery with some of the other cats that the Boss thinks you will get on with. After this it's return to your cage, all clean and fresh, to have breakfast. Lunch is usually a top-up of the yummy dry food that we get. Dinner is at 5pm and ‘Lights out’ is between 8 – 8.30 pm or much later as the boss is often in the cattery at night working so you can stay up late and wander around if you want to. It’s a bit like boarding school, really. We have supervised play time, as not everyone gets on all the time so the boss keeps an eye on everyone. Your litter boxes are changed at least twice a day or three time if your needs are greater.
The menu consists of a combination of Nutro dry food (it’s all natural ingredients) and, wet food which consists of: Gourmet range, Dine, Fancy Feast, steak, cooked chicken and any other treats the Boss thinks we might like. If you’re on a special diet – that’s OK too.
I am in and out most days to visit and have a chat with you or sometimes I just hop in my basket and have a snooze as I enjoy the environment in the cattery – that’s when I’m not out ‘catventuring’ in the back yard and nearby paddock.
If you do decide to come visit us – remember to get your ‘owner’ to make sure your vaccination is up to date as well as your flea and worm treatments. You may bring a special/favourite bed so it feels a little like home (please ensure that your staff have it freshly cleaned and that it is not too large - the double thast you may usually sleep on won't quite fit in the cages !!).
Remember: All makes and models are most welcome to come and stay in our caring, cosy and comfortable establishment.
Our rate is $20.00 per day per cat - charged for the day you arrive to the day you leave inclusive.
I now have a newassistant concierge – her name is Emma – so she assists me to say Hi to everyone. (She was not treated the best when she was little which is why she ended up with my Boss).
The Boss says: Please feel free to give her a call and make a time suitable for you to visit or if you are passing call in to see us. You are also welcome to check us out with the local veterinary clinic - South Wairarapa Veterinary Services on 06 379 6767.
We are undergoing some major changes in the cattery which is why we now only take 15 puddies, but feel free to call us at any time. Apart from our 4 walk-in cages our other 6 cages are approximately 1m High x 1m Deep x 2m in length - there is a sleeping and eating area with walkthru to the ensuite area and each cage has a glass window to let you check out the neighbours if you want to. The changes are an ongoing project.
The Boss has even given me my own email – so get your little paws working on that computer and write to me at Simon@chiltonlodge.co.nz and make a date to come and visit us.
